Floating sounds of dulcimer music and clicking needles will welcome visitors to the historic Reuben Brown House at the corner of West Columbus and Franklin streets on Friday, Nov. 3 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The interior will be decorated for the season by members of the Reuben Brown House Preservation Society for the public to view as part of the 2017 Pecan Harvest Festival’s Home Tour.

Bladen County’s John Goodman will fill the house with traditional music while Jean Williamson tells stories through fabric with her exquisite quilting. During shifts throughout the afternoon, Esther Collier, Judy Elkins, Peggy Noble, Grey Phillips, Jane Pruitt and Connie Wilson will demonstrate crocheting, lacemaking, pillow making, embroidery, needlepoint and rag doll making.

The Reuben Brown House, circa 1830s, is preserved and maintained by the RBHPS, a countywide non-profit organization.

The society’s objectives are to encourage the preservation and use of historic buildings and sites across Columbus County and to encourage fi ne arts throughout the county. RBHPS sponsors the Columbus County historic landmark plaque program, The Archie Ammons Poetry Contest and other events throughout the year. For more information, visit reubenbrownhouse.org.

Admission to the five-home tour is by wristband, which can be purchased that day at the gate of the Reuben Brown House for $10.

A combination wristband for $20 admits the wearer to the Pecan Queen’s Luncheon at Vineland Station at 11:30 as well as to the tour sites.

Combination wristbands must be bought by Wednesday, Oct. 25, either at the Trigon Building, 115 W. Main St., Whiteville, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. or by calling Suzanne King at 642-9732.
